Summary from 2019-20 program

In July 2019, Health Systems Global and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (The Alliance), in close collaboration with Health Policy and Planning, invited applications for a new Women in Mentorship Program. A call was put out for early-career women based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) working on health policy and systems research (HPSR), looking to publish their research for the first time in a global peer-reviewed journal, but requiring guidance and support to submit a publishable manuscript.

The results showed great interest in the program, with 250 applications from prospective mentees. The successful mentees – 22 young researchers – were then paired with mentors, who have provided one-to-one support to convert the mentees’ work into a publishable manuscript.

Successful articles will formed a collection of papers developed by first-time women authors based in LMIC and working on HPSR issues which was published as a Special Supplement in Health Policy and Planning in November 2020.
