Thematic Working Groups (TWGs)

Action on Accountability and Anti-corruption for SDGs

The  Thematic Working Group on Action on Accountability and Anti-corruption for SDGs (TWG AAA)  is dedicated to exploring and addressing the root causes of weak accountability and corruption in health systems, with a particular focus on the systemic structures that allow these challenges to persist. The group champions effective governance as a cornerstone for sustainable development and the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The TWG brings together global health professionals, policymakers, researchers, practitioners, civil society actors, educators, and development agencies who are committed to advancing anti-corruption and accountability in health. It supports efforts across diverse contexts to design and implement good governance policies and promote the efficient, equitable use of resources.

Through knowledge exchange and collaboration, the TWG fosters innovative approaches to combating corruption and strengthening accountability. Webinars, blogs, and in-person engagements provide opportunities for participants to share experiences, co-create solutions, and amplify effective strategies for building transparent, equitable, and resilient health systems—ultimately helping to overcome critical barriers to UHC.

The group has four focus areas:

  • Generate knowledge on the manifestations of poor accountability and corruption across different settings. Leads: Dr. Eleanor Hutchinson and Pamela Ogbozor
  • Promote co-production of novel accountability and anti-corruption strategies and solutions that can work in different contexts. Leads: Dr. Ankita Meghani and Prince Agwu
  • Support HSG member capacity development. Leads: Ms. Sarah Steingrüber and Charles Orjiakor
  • Mobilizing HSG Members and Constituents for policy engagement and AAA advocacy. Lead: Jonathan Cushing.

  • A webinar and podcast series highlighting the latest evidence, best practices, and interviews with key experts in the field
  • A global crowdsourcing call to identify accountability and anti-corruption solutions and stories from the field
  • Regional policymaker dialogues in Africa and Asia to discuss novel solutions
  • Member capacity-building opportunities such as peer-mentoring for publications and courses on anti-corruption
  • Synthesis of existing evidence, contributing to building a global evidence repository, and developing a research agenda.
