What to look out for from HSG during the rest of 2019
There number of current and upcoming events, activities and opportunities for HSG members to look out for during the remainder of 2019.
This month sees the abstract submission deadlines for a series of national and regional events to help mobilise and prepare HSG members planning to respond to the call for abstracts for the Sixth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2020) in Dubai next year. More broadly, the events also aim to contribute to the building of the HPSR community within geographies and foster engagement for future networking, knowledge sharing, and advocacy.

The HSR2020 call for abstracts is expected to open on 12 September, with the official website for the Global Symposium being prepared to launch ahead of this call. The deadline for organized session submissions will be 14 November. The final date for individual abstracts to be submitted will be 6 February 2020. Please look out for more information via the HSG website, as well as HSG social media (#HSR2020), the September edition of the HSG monthly email newsletter, and HSG’s targeted member emails.
Back in July, HSG and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, in collaboration with Health Policy and Planning, announced a call for mentees as part of our joint Publication Mentorship program. The invitation to early-career women based in low- and middle-income countries and working on HPSR issues, who are interested in receiving guidance and support to help them publish their HPSR research for the first time in a global peer-reviewed journal is open for applications until 6 September.
In the coming weeks we hope to share more news on upcoming webinars, including a thematic working group webinar on non-state service providers in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and a webinar to support HSG members in preparing organized session proposals for HSR2020.
Please look out for and engage with HSG’s advocacy activities in the lead-up to and during the UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage next month in New York City. Our messages and ‘asks’ of UN member states and UN system agencies are directly informed by the views HSG members shared during the recent HSG membership advocacy consultation. Thanks again for your great response to the consultation. We plan to further consult members in 2019 on the shape and focus of a future HSG advocacy campaign.
Finally, HSG members should have all received an email inviting them to participate in an HSG capacity assessment survey. We would like to hear from HSG members on what they think HSG can do to support capacity strengthening for health policy and systems work around the world. Please do look out for it in your email inboxes. We look forward to reading your suggestions.
Please get in touch if you have any questions about any of the above.
Have a good August.
The HSG Secretariat.
