Update on the Women Mentorship program

In July 2019, Health Systems Global and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (The Alliance), in close collaboration with Health Policy and Planning, invited applications for a new Women Mentorship program. A call was put out for early-career women based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) working on health policy and systems research (HPSR), looking to publish their research for the first time in a global peer-reviewed journal, but requiring guidance and support to submit a publishable manuscript.

The results showed great interest in the program, with 250 applications from prospective mentees. The successful mentees – 22 young researchers – were then paired with mentors, who have provided one-to-one support to convert the mentees’ work into a publishable manuscript.

The mentee authors are now in the last phase of reviewing and accepting journal reviewers’ comments before the final submission to Heath Policy and Planning. Successful articles will form a collection of papers developed by first-time women authors based in LMIC and working on HPSR issues and published as a Special Supplement in Health Policy and Planning in November 2020.

Our new website contains more information about the Women Mentorship program, along with the profiles of all of our mentors and mentees.
