The Institute of Development Studies joins the Health Systems Global team

I am pleased to announce the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK, as the new provider of communications support for Health Systems Global.

IDS joins at an exciting time for HSG ahead of the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Vancouver, Canada, on 14-18 November 2016, and the development of HSG’s new Strategic Plan 2016-2020.

IDS will be working closely with HSG Board, Committees, and Secretariat to communicate the work and interests of HSG members and stakeholders to current and new audiences in the global community.

Priorities for the HSG communications team for 2016 include leading HSG communications activities for the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, and proactive engagement and relationship building with HSG’s Thematic Working Groups (TWG) to communicate and support their work, and, crucially, strengthen the links between them.

IDS team is being led by Tom Barker – Senior Health and Nutrition Convenor at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). Tom brings 14 years’ experience working in knowledge brokering, research communication, policy engagement, and parliamentary influencing in the UK health and international development policy arenas. Previously Tom managed a research knowledge brokering network for the UK National Institute for Health Research Health Services and Delivery Research Programme.

IDS brings almost 20 years of experience in knowledge and communications for development work, and will be able to harness the extensive partnership networks and communications infrastructure of a leading global institution for development research, teaching and learning, and impact and communications.

We hope this new relationship will bring benefits and opportunities to HSG and its members, and help advance positioning and profiling of HSG as the international membership organisation entirely dedicated to promoting health systems research and knowledge translation.
