Health Systems Global (HSG) proudly participated in the high-level side event “No Public Health Without Migrant Health: Reinforcing Global Commitment Amidst Geopolitical and Funding Shifts,” held during the World Health Summit 2025 in Berlin. The event convened global health leaders, policymakers, and advocates to address the urgent need for coordinated action on migrant and refugee health in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Representing HSG, Dr. Goran Zangana—Board Member and Treasurer of the organization, and Member of the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Health Migration and Displacement—joined a distinguished panel to share insights on institutional priorities and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Event Overview

Moderated by Miriam Orcutt of the Virchow Foundation, the session opened with welcome remarks from Roland Göhde (Virchow Foundation) and a keynote address by Dr. Santino Severoni (WHO Special Initiative on Health and Migration). The panel discussion featured seven prominent voices from international organizations, academia, and civil society.

Dr. Zangana contributed to the dialogue by outlining HSG’s commitment to advancing migrant and refugee health through inclusive research, policy engagement, and regional partnerships. He emphasized the importance of elevating migrant-led initiatives and integrating health systems research into humanitarian and development frameworks.

 Key Discussion Themes

  • Institutional priorities for migrant health amidst geopolitical instability and shifting funding landscapes
  • Opportunities for synergy across governments, donors, civil society, and migrant-led organizations
  • Strategies to ensure sustainable, equitable, and evidence-informed health responses for displaced populations

 Interactive Exchange

The event’s intimate setting fostered dynamic engagement between speakers and attendees. Participants were invited to respond to the panel’s guiding questions, share reflections, and pose challenges to the global health community.

Looking Ahead

Dr. Zangana’s participation reinforced HSG’s role as a convener and thought leader in health systems research for vulnerable populations. The session served as a catalyst for future collaboration, with shared commitments to equity, resilience, and inclusive policymaking.

Health Systems Global thanks the Berlin Global Health Collective and co-organizers for facilitating this timely and impactful conversation.
