Health Systems Global (HSG) and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (The Alliance) are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2024 HPSR Societal Awards.

BACKGROUND

Health Systems Global (HSG) and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (The Alliance) are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2024 HPSR Societal Awards.

The Societal Awards were established in 2016 by the Board of HSG in close cooperation with The Alliance to recognize and celebrate high standards of professional performance and exceptional contributions of individuals or organizations to the field of health policy and systems research and health systems strengthening.

2024 AWARDS & CRITERIA

Nominations are invited for three types of awards to be submitted on or before the deadline – 17:00 EST on 1 July 2024:

The HPSR Lifetime Service Award

Presented to an individual or organization in recognition of extraordinary lifetime achievement in the field of health policy and systems research.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. their notable original research and/or conceptual and theoretical contributions in the field of HPSR and/or
  2. for leadership in the promotion, utilization or mainstreaming of HPSR and/or
  3. for outstanding leadership as an educator and/or mentor in the field of HPSR
  4. minimum 15 years of service in HPSR

*Nominees need not excel across all of these criteria but need to demonstrate excellence in at least one of these capacities.

Award: Plaque with lifetime HSG membership

The Sam Adjei Distinguished Public Service Award

Presented to an individual who demonstrates leadership in evidence-based policy formulation for health systems strengthening.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. their leadership of initiatives to strengthen health policy or systems in their particular context;
  2. their application of health policy or systems research evidence to health systems strengthening or policy reforms;
  3. their encouragement of linkages between the research, and policy or practice communities; and
  4. the significance of their work for population health.

*Nominees need to have outstanding achievements in at least one area and demonstrate excellence in one or more additional areas listed above and have to be individuals currently or previously in an elected or appointed position in government, an international agency or other non-profit organization engaged in public service.

Award: Plaque and 2-year HSG membership

Young Professional Award

Presented to an individual involved for their outstanding promotion of HPSR knowledge generation and use or advocacy of the field.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. their contribution to the innovative promotion of HPSR knowledge generation and its use to improve the performance of health systems and/or
  2. their contribution to advocacy for the field of HPSR in a particular context

*Nominees need to be in the 21-35 age group and must have demonstrated excellence in at least one of these capacities.

**Nominees and provide a concrete example and its efficacy.

Award: Plaque and 2-year HSG membership

The awards do not carry any monetary value but serve to recognize and celebrate extraordinary contributions.

The 2024 award ceremony will be held at the 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2024) in Nagasaki, Japan from November 18-22, 2024.

PROCESS

Nominator Criteria

To submit a nomination for any of these awards, interested individuals must complete the online form and send it to HSG Secretariat to the following e-mail address: info@healthsystemsglobal.org.

Nominations must be received by the deadline – 17:00 EST on 1 July 2024.

Nominators need to be HSG members. To become a member of the society, please visit our website.

Nominations need to include the following to be considered:

  1. The personal details of the nominator and name of the nominee
  2. A brief letter detailing the rationale for the nomination aligned with the evaluation criteria

Once the Secretariat completes the screening of all nominations, shortlisted nominees will be contacted and requested to submit:

  1. Two letters of recommendation from different individuals working in the field of HPSR (not necessarily HSG members)
  2. A CV of the nominated candidate.

* Nominees must be living and are not required to be HSG members.
