HSG Africa Regional Network: Call for convenings
The HSG Africa Regional Network is pleased to announce a call for convenings!
Convenings are defined as gatherings of diverse people with a range of perspectives, where participants are engaged in a collective effort that serves a specific shared purpose (Rockerfeller Foundation, 2013). Typically, convenings are in-person gatherings of 10-40 participants, and can be as short as a half-day. They are designed to make progress and connections on issues of key importance to constituents, facilitate shared understanding and alignment around generating solutions, develop foresight, and build networks to innovate. Convenings may include activities such as ‘unconferences’ (participant-driven meetings which don’t follow conventional conference formats), advocacy events, hosted discussions, online debates, public events and more.
Objectives
The Health Systems Global Africa Regional Network call for convenings seeks to stimulate communal efforts across the continent towards drawing insights and action on strengthening HPSR in local settings.
It is expected that ideas, deliberations, learnings and outputs generated from the regional convenings will feed into the Africa regional meeting being held at HSR2020 in Dubai.
Criteria

Convenings must focus on one or more HSR2020 sub-theme

Convenings should speak to one or more identified HSG Africa priorities (identified from the 2018 regional survey results):

Strengthening capacities for HPSR leadership

Decolonizing HPSR
-
Strengthening HPSR networks, especially in under-represented countries
-
Advocating for increased domestic funding for research
-
Enhancing linkages to regional blocs/economic communities/ministerial meetings

Convening organizers should be HSG members, and Africa-based researchers, practitioners or policy-makers
Application process
Submissions of no more than three (3) pages should include the following:

Name of convening organizers (including institutional affiliation)

Proposal clearly articulating purpose of convening; and
-
HSR2020 sub-theme addressed;
-
HSG Africa priority area addressed;
-
potential list of participants;
-
social media plan;
-
expected outcomes – including a description of how the outcomes will feed into HSR2020; and
-
itemized budget.

A maximum of USD 2,000 is available per convening. Successful convening organizers must be able to receive funds into an institutional account.
Even if you don’t need funding to host your event, we invite you to submit an idea anyway, and we will include this in the list of regional events.
Convening participants will be offered a complementary two-year HSG membership.
Timelines
The last date of submission is 13 January 2020 11:59 CET. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
Submissions should be sent to info@healthsystemsglobal.org, with the subject line: ‘HSG Africa regional convenings’.
It is expected that convenings will take place from March – August 2020.
