Call for Expressions of Interest to host 2nd International Symposium on Community Health Workers
The Health Systems Global (HSG) Supporting and Strengthening The Role of Community Health Workers in Health System Development Thematic Working Group is calling for expressions of interest for organising and hosting the 2nd International Symposium on Community Health Workers (CHWs) to be held in 2019. The first symposium, held in Kampala, Uganda in February 2017, was the first of its kind and attended by over 450 delegates from 22 countries around the world.
The symposium is expected to bring together various stakeholders including researchers, practitioners, policy makers, academics, donors, civil society, students and CHWs. The symposium will provide a platform for sharing evidence, facilitate interdisciplinary research, enhance collaboration, and offer networking opportunities.
The symposium will be organised by the successful applicant, and support will be provided by several partners including but not limited to Supporting and Strengthening The Role of Community Health Workers in Health System Development Thematic Working Group, Healthcare Information for All (HIFA), CHW Central, as well as the main organisers of the first symposium (Makerere University School of Public Health, Uganda and Nottingham Trent University – School of Social Sciences, UK) who will share information about the previous event. The successful applicant will work with these and other partners to develop a concept note to support in securing funding for the symposium. Benefits of hosting the symposium include but are not limited to establishing local and international links for future collaboration, increasing publicity of in-country CHW work, and contributing to the development of CHW programmes globally.
We encourage any interested institutions with active CHW programmes particularly from low- and middle-income countries to apply.
Expressions of interest should include the following:
- Name of the host institution(s)
- City and country where symposium is proposed to be held
- Name and position of primary contact
- Tentative dates for the symposium
- Proposed venue for the symposium
- A brief statement highlighting the reason why the institution(s) and country would wish to host the symposium (maximum 500 words)
Any inquiries may be directed to Faye Moody (Faye.Moody@lstmed.ac.uk).
Expressions of interest should be sent by 29th September 2017 to Faye Moody.
